Illustration Friday - Transportation

Illustration Friday: Transportation
Vulture Study
Watercolor
© Kerry Schofield

This vulture study is from an original watercolor and mixed-media drawing. Vultures use their wings as transportation and are excellent navigators of the wind.  They are very patient creatures waiting for just the right moment to land on their prey and eat.

Vultures can see meat from far away and have a keen sense of smell. The Mayans regarded the vulture as a death eater. It's October, the month of Halloween, apropos for ghouls and vultures alike. Vultures like to regally sit together on roof tops and in trees, in many numbers, and peer down very quietly.
